Ergonomics is the study of work. Good ergonomics fits the work to you and makes it easier and more efficient for your body to perform the work. Poor ergonomics could cause discomfort or fatigue and when unattended could cause or aggravate musculoskeletal disorders. Early recognition and intervention is the key to avoid these problems.

The self-assessment and training tool (Remedy Interactive OES) and RSIGuard break software are available to BP employees. You can use the Remedy Interactive OES to assess your work condition and learn proper posture and workstation setup to minimize your ergonomic risks. You can customize the RSIGuard to remind you to take needed breaks to allow your body to recover. Contract employees please check with your employers about their ergonomics programs.

In addition, the ergonomics section covers general guidelines on office ergonomics, how to order equipment, how to adjust your chairs and keyboard trays and tips on how to change the display font size to make it easier for you to view the screen.

Contact the Medical Department at 630/420-5675 if you need assistance.
